A Sip of Rio edition by Teodora Kostova Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Liam and Blaine were characters I really enjoyed. I liked the reason for why they met up, and went on the trip to Rio together. I liked Blaine's easygoing nature, and quick smile. Liam was a sweetheart, adorable with his curls.
I loved how Rio de Janeiro was like a secondary, or almost main "character" of the book. The descriptions and feel of this big city made me want to go there myself. It's clear the author loves this city, and it shines through to the reader!
I loved Blaine and Liam in Rio. Their sightseeing and activities. It really made me feel the city. I loved their blossoming romance. They were so good together. The kissing scene, and sex scenes were awesome. The author knows how to write a great sex scene!
+++++++++++ slight spoilers ahead ++++++++++++++++
I have a niggle with Blaine not telling Liam about his bisexuality. I get that Blaine didn't want to put pressure on Liam to have a romantic holiday when they didn't know each other that well. What I didn't like was that I felt Blaine didn't tell Liam, at the same time as he relentlessly flirted with Liam, and constantly calling him "babe". I felt it was a confusion for Liam, that I didn't like. The story is so warm, happy and feel-good, the slight angst/issue this caused was unnecessary, and put me off.
I didn't like Liam's reaction to Blaine when he told him his feelings, how he shut him down after the wonderful time the had together. I liked the idea Blaine came up with, but I don't understand why it had to be the travel blog or no relationship at all. Why couldn't they have continued their relationship when they got back instead and see how things went from there? They met several times before they went, so I don't understand why they couldn't have just talked about dating and taken the idea of the travel blog from there. I get why Liam balked at the idea, it's a huge decision.
The grand gesture was totally swoon worthy! The meaning of the balloon was totally fitting! It didn't bother me that it was Blaine who wooed Liam, after all Liam reached out first, didn't he? However, Blaine wooed Liam with shoving him he was serious about the travel blog. I don't get why the travel blog had to be entwined with their HEA. Also, the puppy? How can you with good conscience surprise someone with getting a dog, when their plans are to travel all over the world for their blog being their job? Poor doggie. -/
Ignoring my niggles, though, this was a wonderful read. The writing was great! And Rio was even greater! I loved this warm breath of summer reading this story in cold October.
Recommended!
This is a sweet quick beach type read. I read it over the course of a night.
Liam needs to find someone with the same name as his jerk ex in order to go on the romantic holiday he planned-months before he discovered said jerk was a jerk.
Liam and Blaine build a strong connection even before they get to their destination.
I was rooting for them and their relationship the whole time. Blaine was so sweet and perfect for Liam, he understood where Liam was coming from and did his best to show him that Blaine could be what he needed.
Liam has been hurt many times over and it's not surprising when he just wants to get away from it all.
With the magic that seems to be in the air of Rio De Janeiro, Liam and Blaine get closer to one another. They fall, but Liam has been hurt before, and he doesn't trust that his feelings are real. I so wanted to shake him, to get him to see that it was real and to not. I wanted them to be together without the worries because they needed each other, they were right for each other, after being hurt they were able to find love once again. That is a beautiful thing.
This is nicely written, contemporary, with decent leads, a workable storyline that ends in the start of a HEA.
It takes place under the backdrop of Rio, as is clear in the title, and ends in another type of Rio, which I loved. The leads end up coming together as holiday-buds, when Liam advertises for someone to share a trip to Rio with him, and Blaine applies, and I liked the glimpses of Rio that seemed as if the author knew her stuff - in fact, as she mentions in the afterword, she went there and is describing her own experiences.
There's some slow-build sex, some hot and sexy sex and some fun times, before one guy confesses that he'd like things to last beyond the trip, and the other panics, but after not too much drama, all's good.
It was nice to see an English tale with English leads (though I've never met or heard of anyone called Blaine in my 47yrs in the UK!) and that they guys seemed about to embark on more adventures. I'd have liked to be able to catch up with them months/years into their HEA - maybe the author could do a holiday short with them? Please?

What a thrilling adventure this story led me on. Serendipity brought Liam and Blaine together for Liam's dream trip to Rio Dr Janeiro. They not only discovered fascinating scenery but their new found friendship turned into love. What better ending to a fantastic trip than the beginning of a lifelong love?
