JavaScript is a scripting language for the web. Before we delve into the intricacies of JavaScript, we need to know why it is used. While HTML tells your browser how your webpage will look, JavaScript is used for dynamic content and to add functionality.
Using this book, you will understand the concept of JavaScript and its use in web designing. You will also have a look at jQuery in general. You will learn about Functions, Operators, the concept of Variables, Conditions and Loops, Arrays, and the basics of jQuery in this book.
Instead of wandering through loads of theory, we have used practical examples in this book. The examples in this book are compatible with almost every browser. Instead of using the verbatim code, you can modify the code and see the change in the output thereby understanding the subtle nuances of JavaScript.
By the end of the book, with practice, you can achieve better things and get more acquainted with JavaScript.

I seldom give bad reviews but I will depart from that here. The book took me about 15 minutes to read in entirety. It had less information in it that even the most basic beginner tutorials I've seen on the Internet. On top of that, there are multiple code samples in the book that are considered by most as bad practices. The title "Thinking in Javascript" leads one to think that the book will help you think the way that JS is.. that you will get your head around the thinking process of the language. This is actually an inaccurate expectation of the contents of the book. Perhaps a better title might be something like "Are You Thinking ABOUT Javascript: For beginners by beginners". Honestly, instead of reading this book I would suggest that you Google "Javascript Tutorials" . So, I give it one star only because there is no zero.. misleading title, poorly written, over simplified, incomplete, etc, etc.Product details

Thinking in JavaScript eBook Aravind Shenoy Reviews
Excellent!! the author is very focused, only thing I don't like is thst im not able to copy and past the simple java scripts, maybe its a matter of compatability, but still a very informative book
Cant beat free tech books
Not a book for learning nor thinking in javascript as it states. Javascript do need theory to be understood. This is more like a very simple explanation of javascript in 10 minutes. That should be the actual name ofbthis book. One big misunderstanding... Html tells the browser how a page should be structured but not how it should look that is for css.
Overall I enjoyed the writing style it was easy to follow and the code examples helped to show what the author was trying to explain. If you have very basic knowledge of JavaScript you should find this book helpful. The only down side is that it only covers the basics of JavaScript but tells there is more to learn in other books sold by the publisher.
The author don't know what he is talking about. Lot of errors, don't use this book to learn javascript or you will learn some misconceptions about the language. You will be much better learning from MDN (Mozilla Development Network).
Don't worth the price (I know it's free).
Going by the title I was hoping for in depth info on prototypal inheritance compared with classical inheritance, and other rare features of JavaScript.
Instead I just got _yet another_ primer aimed at the complete beginner. The English is awkward and repetitive at times, making for heavy reading. Also, in just 2 minutes of reading this book I saw several breaches of best practises and poor code formatting.
Ok, you can get most of this information from a few good tutorials. I was really hoping for a deeper insight into javascript and its innerworkings. Nope not here.
If you're new to javascript and/or programming in general, this book may be useful to you. If you're a seasoned programmer you'll probably be disappointed.
I gave it two stars because its not completely useless. (see above statement).
